Dear Colleagues,
We have exciting news to share. SJSU has been accepted into the AASCU Student-Centered Course Scheduling cohort.
This grant-funded national initiative, in partnership with Ad Astra, will help us improve course scheduling so students can move through their degrees more efficiently and graduate on time. We will be exploring ways to redesign course scheduling to accelerate student progress and completion and share proven strategies with the field.
To kick things off, we are asking everyone involved in scheduling, advising, academic, or co-curricular planning to take a quick Readiness Assessment.
- When: Open now through 11/15.
- Time: About 10-15 minutes.
- Email: Use your SJSU email address; responses will be grouped by institution but kept confidential.
- Link: Smart Academic Planning and Scheduling Readiness Assessment.
Quick definitions and reminders:
- Academic Scheduling: The process of determining course offerings and assigning modalities, meeting times/days, instructors, etc. to classes each term.
- Pathways: The term-by-term roadmaps that guide students through degree programs.
- Degree Velocity: How quickly students move toward completing their degrees.
- If you’re unsure how to answer a question, select “I do not know.” That feedback is still valuable!
Please share this with colleagues who contribute to the class schedule or engage with students.
We really appreciate your help.
Warm regards,
Sarah Schraeder Cisneros
