Year 1: HSI Grant: Summer Research Internship
Tuesday, June 7, 2022 - Monday, August 15, 2022
David Parent, John Lee, & Patrick Jurney
In the Summer of 2022, 5 Gavilan Community College Students participated in the Summer Student Research Internship Program with SJSU Faculty Members. We had 3 SJSU Faculty mentor these students throughout their research projects. The students and the faculty met each week as a group to discuss their project status and to get feedback on their project communication skills. Professor Jurney and Lee led face-to-face projects, while Professor Parent led a remote project. The students presented their results to their families and CC faculty on the 15’th of August 2022.
The projects were:
- Patrick Jurney with Alexis Solorio
- Biological Integration of Cardiovascular Biomaterials
- Microfluidic Chips for Use in COVID-19 treatments
- 3D Bioprinting of Blood Vessels and Vascular Networks
- John Lee with Silvestre Gonzalez & Keola Sylva
- Cell image analysis for morphometric changes in microgravity
- Mechanical behavior of composite polymer electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries
- Flow characterization in porous media microchannels
- David Parent with Riccardo Conte & Erick Rayos
- Stochastic resonators for the application of faint signal detection in noisy environments
- Efficient noise generation for the application control of robotic systems
- Quadratic Integrate and Fire neurons networks for artificial intelligence-based control of robotic systems
