Auditions

Auditions for film and theatre productions are held at the beginning of each semester and are open to all SJSU students, regardless of major.

Students who are cast must enroll in TA 117 - Practice in Acting or Directing to participate.

Theatre productions also provide opportunities for students to work as crew members (e.g., lighting, sound, wardrobe, make-up, etc.) to earn required/elective units for TA 191 - Activity Projects in Theatre Production.

About the Production

When a Korean boy is adopted and then “re-homed” online like a pet, he lands in the care of a queer couple in San Francisco — one of whom is not legally recognized as a parent.

Told through the boy’s eyes — who sees himself not as a child, but as a wolf — Wolf Play is a searing, imaginative exploration of identity, family, and belonging. With visceral emotion and inventive staging, playwright Hansol Jung and director Will Detlefsen invite audiences into a bold, theatrical world where survival means finding your pack and learning to howl back.

Fierce, urgent, and deeply human, Wolf Play is a gripping experience that asks: What does it mean to be truly claimed?

About the Production

What happens when a kingdom built on rigid rules and fragile power collides with the forces of laughter, desire, and rebellion?

Originally penned in 1939 by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, Kingdom of Cards is a darkly whimsical and poetic satire that challenges authoritarianism, blind conformity, and materialistic greed. In this bold new adaptation, Sukanya Chakrabarti reimagines Tagore’s allegory through a contemporary lens, fusing magic realism with urgent political commentary.

Featuring the talents of student artists and community voices, and enriched by the evocative strains of Rabindrasangeet (Tagore’s own musical tradition), this production invites audiences to question systems of control—and rediscover the power of imagination, resistance, and the human spirit.
