Tower Lawn Lighting Improvement
This ongoing project to enhance lighting around Tower Lawn is nearing completion. Over the summer, crews successfully installed new underground conduit and lighting fixtures across campus.
Work is currently focused in the area around Spartan Memorial and extending to 4th Street. Once all new lights are installed and connected, the removal of the old lighting system will begin. We do not anticipate noise levels to impact classes.
Landscape restoration has started in the areas impacted by the underground work. Fencing is installed around the lawns to the protect the grass while it takes root. This fencing will remain in place for up to five weeks - until mid to late September 2025. Please stay off the lawn until it’s ready for all Spartans to enjoy.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation in respecting the fencing boundaries during this time.
This project is replacing outdated infrastructure with a modern, reliable, and energy-efficient lighting system. In addition to improving campus safety, it will also introduce new electrical power stations on Tower Lawn, offering enhanced support for campus events and student activities—especially in the evening.
Arch of Dignity, Equality and Justice Maintenance
From August 11 to Friday, August 22, repair work and fresh paint will be applied to the Arch of Dignity, Equality and Justice (also known as the Cesar Chavez Arch). There will be no access through the arch or in the area around the fountain. Detour through the Student Union west patio. There will not be any loud machinery noise.
Campus visitors should be aware of the ongoing impacts to campus grounds and be mindful when walking along detours for moving vehicles, equipment, and uneven pavement. Exercise caution if choosing to walk across the grounds outside the designated detour routes.
Central Classroom Building: Occupational Therapy Spaces Renovation
From July 28 to September 5, construction in the Central Classroom Building (CCB) will block access through the south door. The pathway behind the Student Wellness Center (SWC), between the Spartan Complex east wing (SPXE) will be fenced off for storage of construction materials. Employees using the back exit to SWC should be mindful of crews and equipment moving into and out of the back area. Expect moderate construction noise and detours. No construction work will happen at SPX or SWC.
This work will ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and current building code, ensuring Occupational Therapy programs in the CCB can be accessed by all.
Ongoing Tower Hall Façade Repair
The exterior of Tower Hall is undergoing repair. Fencing around the tower will change and impact pedestrians and ADA mobility device users. Use the designated accessible detour route when the pathway around Tower Hall is closed.
