Chemical Procurement and Inventory
Chemical Procurement
The New Chemical Procurement Form (single or multiple) must be filled out before obtaining chemicals for the FIRST TIME. Replacement of chemicals that are already in the lab/shop RSS Chemical inventory does not require this form. Additionally, the following chemical products are exempt from this requirement: nontoxic neutral media (such as cell culture media), household consumer products (such as spray paint, hand sanitizer, glue, and bleach), and nontoxic neutral salt buffers (such as saline or tris buffer). The form must be routed to a faculty or staff member that supervises a lab/shop for final signature as the "responsible party".
Completing the form initiates a review to ensure that all safety equipment, facility infrastructure and regulatory requirements are in place prior to the chemical arriving on campus. It is not intended to prohibit the ordering or receipt of donations of any chemical, but rather to ensure that the University and its employees are able to comply with all pertinent rules regarding chemical use and acquisition.
Chemical Inventory
Chemical inventories are managed via the RSS Chemicals App. It's important to track and maintain chemical inventories to ensure that labs don't order more chemicals than are needed and to make sure that the University stays below Maximum Allowable Quantities (MAQs).
