Initiatives
SJSU Student Affairs has identified the following multi-year initiatives as among the most important work connected to student health and well-being.
Strategic Plan for Student Basic Needs
The following campuswide goals shape SJSU’s efforts to improve student basic needs:
- Relaunch SJSU Cares to focus on providing limited, short-term basic needs assistance, first tier health and well-being support, and connections to social services for ongoing support.
- Proactively seek and serve students who need SJSU Cares support most.
- Establish well-being focused, stepped case management services to provide intensive support for the subset of students with chronic and complex basic needs and health concerns.
- Work across the institution to enhance and expand internal and external aid to broadly reduce basic needs insecurity.
Strategic Plan for Student Career Success
The following campuswide goals shape SJSU’s efforts to improve student career success:
- 80% of all academic programs have achieved degree-to-career information availability.
- All students fulfill SJSU's basic career development competencies before graduation.
- All students engage in career exploration through experiential learning, e.g., internships and/or community engagement, to prepare them for future careers.
- 70% of graduates obtain full-time employment within six months after graduation.
Strategic Plan for Student Mental Health
The following campuswide goals shape SJSU’s efforts to improve student mental health:
- Connect, inform, and support every student to build and maintain their well-being.
- Strengthen the integrated web of care to support students in distress.
- Increase capacity to resolve barriers to student mental health with responsive, holistic clinical care.
