Well-being @ SJSU Collective

The Well-being @ SJSU Collective was started in 2022 by the Associate Vice President of the Health, Wellness, and Student Services area in the Division of Student Affairs. The collective is an interprofessional, cross-campus network of SJSU staff, faculty, students, and administrators of key services that works collaboratively to advance student health and well-being.

The Well-being @ SJSU Collective has adopted the definitions of health and well-being from the World Health Organization's 2021 Glossary of Terms, which indicates that:

  • Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity
  • Well-being is a positive state experienced by individuals and societies. Similar to health, it is a resource for daily life and is determined by social, economic and environmental conditions

Purpose of the Well-being @ SJSU Collective

The collective aims to perform the following functions:

  • Shape vision, goals, and strategy
  • Advance aligned objectives and initiatives
  • Establish shared measurement practices
  • Build awareness and will
  • Advance policy and supportive environmental factors
  • Mobilize funding to advance student health and well-being

The collective serves a dual purpose as the Student Health Advisory Committee, which is required by CSU Executive Order 1053 ( Policy on Student Mental Health) and Executive Order 943 (Policy on University Health Services) to:

  • Advise on “scope of service, delivery, funding, and other critical issues relating to campus health services”
  • Review proposed student fees for augmented health services
