Current Activities:
Justin Strong is an assistant professor in the Department of Justice Studies at San José State University. Dr. Strong earned a Ph.D. in Criminology, Law & Society with doctoral emphases in Critical Theory and Race and Justice Studies at the University of California, Irvine. His primary research project critically interrogates a prisoner health care lawsuit in the state of Arizona for the ways in which it offers political, aesthetic, and ethical critiques of state violence and 21st century punishment. His deep engagement with prisoners’ legal claims is ultimately focused on generating thought on what it might mean to live a non-sovereign life. His scholarship also engages topics related to prisoner mortality and morbidity, abolition, and disability justice.
