Huerta and Itliong (HI) Month

Notice: The Community Action Center (formerly the César E. Chávez Community Action Center) has officially renamed this programming series to Huerta and Itliong (HI) Month.

2026 Calendar Update

As of March 17, 2026, the CCCAC has paused 2026 CHI Month programming in solidarity with our community and other organizations taking similar steps in this difficult moment. We are taking time to thoughtfully process this information.

As we move forward with care and consideration, we are working closely with our team and campus partners to intentionally re-envision programming in ways that reflect and uphold our center’s values, while supporting the community we love.

We appreciate our community’s patience, grace, and understanding as we navigate this moment together. We will keep our community informed about any updates.

Historical Context of HI Month

Annually, the Community Action Center has hosted Huerta and Itliong Month (HI Month) in March. Its purpose is to commemorate the historic decision to begin the Delano Grape Strike, which was launched through the essential partnership of Dolores Huerta and Larry Itliong.

The month-long celebration consists of the HI Day of Celebration and a series of programs and events that address and honor the labor movement's legacy, the continuing injustices farm workers experience, and critical environmental/food justice topics.
