Safety Course Cancellation and Refund Policy

This policy outlines the financial and procedural requirements for canceling or withdrawing from a lifeguarding course. To ensure consistent program management and fair resource allocation, the following refund schedule and notification requirements apply to all registered participants.

Refund Schedule

Refund eligibility is determined by the number of days between the date a written cancellation request is received and the scheduled start date of the course.

Cancellation Notice Period/Refund Eligibility

  • 14 – 30 Days Before Course
    - Full refund of registration fees, minus a flat cancellation fee.

  • 7 – 14 Days Before Course
    - 50% refund of registration fees, minus a flat cancellation fee.

  • 0 – 7 Days Before Course
    - No refund will be issued.

Mandatory Written Notice

In order to receive a refund, a request must be submitted in writing via email. Verbal notifications, including phone calls or in-person conversations, are not considered official notice of cancellation.

Please send your cancellation request to: Jazmyn at timpanycenter@sjsu.edu.

Consequences of Improper Notification

Failure to send a formal written notice will result in a delay in processing your request. Furthermore, the official date of cancellation will be recorded as the date the email is received, which may affect your refund tier and final refund amount.

Additional Considerations

  • Administrative Fees: The "cancellation fee" referenced above is an administrative charge applied to cover processing and registration costs.
  • Course Prerequisites: Please note that failure to pass required swim evaluations or other course prerequisites on the day of the class does not exempt a participant from the 0–7 day "No Refund" policy.
  • Processing Time: Once a written request is approved, refunds will be processed via either check or direct deposit. Requests typically take 4-6 business weeks to finalize once submitted to the billing department.
