Programs

The School of Social Work offers a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work (BASW) degree and a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree. The School also offers the Pupil Personnel Services Credential, the Spanish Language Counseling Certificate, and a Gerontology Certificate. 

A Transcultural Perspective

For all of our programs, the curriculum is guided by a transcultural perspective for social work practice. The transcultural perspective is infused within all of the courses in the School of Social Work.

This model includes 5 elements:

1. Cultural knowledge
2. Cultural competency
3. Power, privilege and oppression
4. Positionality and self-reflexivity, and
5. Respectful partnership

BASW Program

The BASW program offers a major or minor in Social Work, preparing students with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary for beginning social work practice.

MSW Programs

The School of Social Work operates three MSW programs:

• A full-time on-campus program,
• A 3-year on-campus program,
• An online/hybrid program, and an
• An advanced standing program

Our MSW Program has a single area of specialization (advanced generalist). We have adopted a Transcultural Perspective (TCP) to inform our advanced generalist specialization. The TCP is applied to three interconnected areas of interest to build upon the generalist preparation: (a) children, youth, and families, (b) mental health, and (c) health and aging. Preparation for advanced generalist practice is accomplished as we educate and train Master of Social Work students with enhanced and expanded competencies and behaviors of advanced generalist practice that cover all dimensions (knowledge, skills, values, and cognitive and affective processes).
