Bio

Andrea is committed to the development of truly inclusive educational environments for all students. Before completing her Ph.D., she worked as a preschool special education teacher and an in-home therapist for children with autism and other developmental delays. Her experiences in the field have informed her professional and research interests. In particular, the lack of literacy instruction available to the students she served lead her to examine the adaptation of academic instruction and the impact of such instruction on meeting students' academic and adaptive needs. Her research examines the application of literacy curricula developed for students with low language abilities as well as the impact of this curriculum on the students’ communication abilities.

Andrea's areas of interest include evidence-based practice, adapted literacy instruction, inclusive practices, Universal Design for Learning, positive behavior support, communication development, autism spectrum disorders, research methodology for small sample sizes, moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, English Language Learners, Response to Intervention, and assistive technology.
