Computer Science Certificates in Cybersecurity

If you are interested to obtain a certificate in cybersecurity, follow these steps listed below.

Undergraduate Students

(for both Computer Science and Software Engineering majors)

After 2026 Fall - new requirements and new form (list of courses) [pdf]

  1. Available Certificate: Basic Certificate – Fundamentals of Cybersecurity
  2. Here is the (A) list of courses (after Fall 2026) or (B) list of courses (before Fall 2026) you need to take.
  3. During the last semester of completing all the courses (or after completing all the courses), take this exit survey.
  4. If you take list A of the courses, pleae fill out this Basic Cybersecurity Certificate Request form (NEW) [pdf], or if you take list B, fill out this Basic Cybersecurity Certificate Request form [pdf].
  5. Email to cybersecurity-compsci@sjsu.edu (i) the filled form and (ii) the screenshot of the webpage showing completion of the exit survey.
  6. Upon verified by the CS Department, the Registrar's Office will indicate the certificate on your SJSU transcript.
  7. Here is the Program Education Objective and Program Learning Outcomes.

Graduate Students

(for Computer Science majors)

  1. Available Certificate: Advanced Certificate – Cybersecurity: Core Technologies.
  2. Here is the (A) list of courses (after Fall 2026) or (B) list of courses (before Fall 2026) you need to take.
  3. If you take list A of the courses, please fill out this Advanced Cybersecurity Certificate Audit form (NEW) [pdf] or if you take list B, fill out this Advanced Cybersecurity Certificate Audit form [pdf]. 
  4. Email to cybersecurity-compsci@sjsu.edu.
  5. Upon verified by the GAPE office, the Registrar's Office will indicate the certificate on your SJSU transcript.
