State Government Relations
Year-round, the CGR team strives to strengthen the relationship between our state delegation and the University. A stronger relationship leads to a greater understanding of the University’s greatest asset - the people that make up the SJSU community. This includes our amazing students and their families, accomplished faculty, dedicated staff, and more than 100,000 alumni around the world. It is critical the delegation understands the many benefits and impacts to the region, the state, and the overall importance of the California State University system.
Every fall, the CSU Board of Trustees votes on a budget and selects the CSU-sponsored bills. Once the Governor proposes his January budget, the CGR, along with our colleagues on every CSU campus across the state, go to work advocating for budget and programmatic support. When the Governor and legislature fully fund the Board of Trustees’ adopted budget, it means we are able to increase enrollment, improve graduation rates, create a more inclusive campus community, and provide better support for our faculty and staff.

Additionally, because SJSU is the anchor institution of the City of San José, the team works closely with elected officials and agency staff from both the City of San José and the County of Santa Clara on shared priorities such as the future of Reid-Hillview Airport, the future downtown BART station, and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Library.
