ENGR 5 - Science of High Technology

Curious about how ChatGPT and other modern technologies such as autonomous vehicles work? This course is for you.

Designed for non-engineering students; no technical background is required. Scientific principles underlying commonly used high-technology devices and systems such as computers, smartphones, digital cameras, the Internet, cloud computing, artificial intelligence technologies, and autonomous driving systems. Topics include the hardware and software foundations of AI and large language models, including GPUs, AI data centers, ChatGPT, machine learning, and the scientific principles behind how LLMs work, as well as LiDAR, radar, and related sensing technologies used in self-driving vehicles. Emphasizes practical applications of physical science principles in contemporary engineering products and services.
