Bio

Bahareh 'Bahar' Badiei is Assistant Professor of Critical Digital Communication in the Department of Communication Studies at San José State University. Her research examines digital activism, social media platforms, and the politics of visibility and datafication through transnational feminist and decolonial perspectives. Drawing on qualitative methods and network analysis, she studies how marginalized communities navigate digital platforms.

Before joining SJSU, she earned her Ph.D. in Journalism and Media Studies from Rutgers University, along with a Graduate Certificate in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. At SJSU, she teaches courses on digital communication, activism, and research methods, encouraging students to critically engage with the social and political implications of communication technologies.
