SJSU Response to Shelter in Place Order Extension Through May
Sent: April 29, 2020

SJSU campus community,
Today, Santa Clara County joined five other Bay Area counties in extending the existing Shelter-in-Place (SIP) Order through the end of May. SJSU continues to comply with the guidelines and recommendations from the Santa Clara County Public Health Department, as well as the California State University system, the California Department of Public Health and the Governor’s office.
The updated SIP Order contains updated guidelines regarding construction activities and outdoor businesses and activities. SJSU campus leadership already has begun discussing what these changes will mean for the university while keeping in mind the six indicators Gov. Gavin Newsom recently identified as criteria for reopening the state.
As we develop a roadmap that outlines a phased, informed and staged approach to returning back to campus in greater numbers, we will update the campus community. In the meanwhile, please avoid coming to campus unless your presence on campus has been deemed essential. If your presence has not been deemed essential, but you need to come to campus, discuss with your supervisor prior to coming to campus.
While we continue to move forward through the uncharted waters of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is extremely important that we not only take care of ourselves and our families, but also look out for our fellow Spartans and community members. Everyone is managing this situation in their own way, and sometimes a friendly call, text or even a smile can make all the difference for a friend, classmate, coworker or stranger. During this time, also be willing to reach out to ask for help. We are united as a Spartan family.
