Department Job Openings

The Electrical Engineering Department needs the help of students for a number of different positions around campus.

 

Teaching Associate Position

Open Date

Position Description

Under supervision from faculty, Teaching Associates serve as instructors of EE laboratory courses. Teaching Associates are fully responsible for providing lab instruction, making and administering lab assignments and examinations, tutoring students during the lab session, assessing student performance, holding office hours, and determining total lab scores/grades.

Qualifications

Must be an MSEE classified student.

Must have an SJSU Graduate GPA of 3.5 or better OR SJSU Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better.

Must be registered for at least one EE course or in the process of completing a graduate project/thesis.

Requirement

Please note that students must have a social security card before starting work.

Instructional Student Assistant (ISA)

Applications for Fall 2026 are now open! 

Position Description

Under direct supervision from faculty, Instructional Student Assistants perform grading or tutoring duties up to the assigned work hours per week.

Qualifications

Must be an MSEE classified student.

Must have an SJSU Graduate GPA of 3.3 or better OR SJSU Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better.

Must be registered for at least one EE course or in the process of completing a graduate project/thesis

Department Scholarships and Awards

The Electrical Engineering Department offers scholarships to support undergraduate and graduate students in their academic and professional pursuits.

                         Spring 2027 Scholarship Applications
                                 Deadline: November 30, 2026

Students may apply for multiple department scholarships through one application. Eligibility will be determined based on each scholarship's requirements.

Apply for Spring 2027 EE Scholarships

Broadcom Graduate Scholarship

Two (2) Broadcom Graduate Scholarships of $5,000 each are available to eligible Electrical Engineering graduate students.

To qualify, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

Be a graduate Electrical Engineering student who has completed at least 9 graduate units, but no more than 24 units, at SJSU.
Have an overall SJSU GPA of 3.5 or above.
Meet the scholarship's additional eligibility requirements.
Applicants must submit a one-page letter of interest and meet the department's academic verification requirements.

Clifford Smith Electrical Engineering Endowed Scholarship

Clifford Smith Electrical Engineering Endowed Scholarships of $2,500 each are available to eligible full-time undergraduate and graduate Electrical Engineering students.

To qualify, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

Be a full-time Electrical Engineering student, enrolled in at least 12 units per semester for undergraduate students or 9 units per semester for graduate students.
Meet the applicable academic standing requirements:

Undergraduate students: Must have junior or senior standing.
Graduate students: Must have completed at least 9 units, but no more than 24 units, of the MSEE program.
Meet the minimum SJSU cumulative GPA requirement:

Undergraduate students: 3.0 or above.
Graduate students: 3.5 or above.
Applicants must submit a one-page letter of interest (250 words maximum) and meet the department's academic verification requirements.

Dean's Scholar for Electrical Engineering

The Dean's Scholar for Electrical Engineering Scholarship recognizes eligible Electrical Engineering students who demonstrate strong academic achievement.

To qualify, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

Be a full-time Electrical Engineering student at SJSU.
Have a minimum Electrical Engineering major GPA of 3.0.
Students may apply through the Spring 2027 EE Department Scholarship Application linked above.

Application Deadline: November 30, 2026.

Electrical Engineering Scholarship Fund

The Electrical Engineering Scholarship Fund provides financial support to an Electrical Engineering student pursuing their education at SJSU.

One (1) scholarship will be awarded.

Students may apply through the Spring 2027 EE Department Scholarship Application linked above.

Application Deadline: November 30, 2026.

Luebbers Engineering Success Fund

The Luebbers Engineering Success Fund supports high-performing Electrical Engineering students who demonstrate financial need.

To qualify, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

Be a full-time Electrical Engineering student at SJSU.
Demonstrate strong academic performance.
Demonstrate financial need through Pell Grant eligibility.
Be a California resident.
Students may apply through the Spring 2027 EE Department Scholarship Application linked above.

Application Deadline: November 30, 2026.

William Cottrell Engineering Scholarship

The William Cottrell Engineering Scholarship supports Electrical Engineering students who demonstrate financial need and a positive attitude toward their academic pursuits.

To qualify, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

Be a full-time Electrical Engineering student at SJSU.
Be a U.S. citizen.
Be pursuing a degree from San José State University.
Demonstrate financial need.
Demonstrate a positive attitude toward academic achievement and educational goals.
