Bio
Dr. Rampini's research focuses on the human dimensions of environmental change, specifically people’s capacity to adapt to climate change impacts and to recover from extreme events. Her work has focused on frontline communities in Northeast India and California, who are especially vulnerable to coastal and riverine flooding. She is currently working on 2 research projects related to climate change vulnerability in coastal California. The first project, titled “Resilient and Equitable Urban Stream Corridors,” is a collaboration with Dr. Alexander at SJSU and Dr. Pasternack at UC Davis and it is funded by the UCOP 2024 Climate Action Seed Grant. As part of this project, Dr. Rampini is leading a team of students and together they have visited and collected land use data, visual survey data, trash/litter data, and interview data at 28 homeless encampments sites in the 9 S.F. Bay Area counties to understand their vulnerability to extreme weather events, such as flash floods and heatwaves. The second project, titled “MRN-1/Bolinas Lagoon Sea Level Rise Adaptation Planning Study,” is a collaboration with the Central Coast Wetlands Group at Moss Landing Marine Labs and is funded by the California Department of Transportation. As part of this project, Dr. Rampini is leading engagement and outreach efforts to a) identify community members’ transportation-related concerns and experiences with flooding along the 5.41-mile segment of Hwy 1 in Marin County near Bolinas Lagoon, and b) to assess community members’ preferences regarding potential short-, medium- and long-term solutions for the study area.
