SAFE Act (SB98)
Understanding the SAFE Act
The California SAFE Act (Sending Alerts to Families in EducatioN) requires San José State University, and all CSU campuses, to alert the university community when immigration enforcement activity is confirmed on the campus unless prohibited by law. It also requires institutions of higher education to provide support to students who are detained, deported or are otherwise unable to meet their academic obligations due to the actions of immigration enforcement actions. In compliance of the SAFE Act, SJSU will maintain this visit log when the University Designated Official confirms the presence and any and all activities of federal agents on SJSU properties: Main Campus, South Campus, Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, Hammer Theatre Center, Art Foundry, Associated Students Childhood Development Center, International House, Spartan Village on the Paseo and all other university housing, Timpany Center, and SJSU Aviation at Reid-Hillview Airport.

SAFE Act Notifications
SJSU will issue any and all SAFE Act-required notifications of campus federal immigration enforcement activity on any SJSU property through the SJSU safety mobile app, Spartan Safe. Spartan Safe is SJSU’s one, official mobile application to access all safety and incident reporting, emergency guides, access to SJSU’s full suite of comprehensive wellness support services and is available for free to all students, employees and campus visitors. Learn about the app and download by visiting go.sjsu.edu/spartansafe and turn notifications on. Note that Spartan Safe will also deliver campus safety notifications - including those required by law - in addition to any and all SAFE Act notifications. Additional notifications may also be issued by University Communications via email.
